The Worst News

It seems as though the moms who became friends through the Day One playgroup two years ago are steadily proceeding into round two of baby-making. Emily wasn't the first, nor will she be the last, as it looks like our group has booked the hospitals solid through November.

One of our friends, C, was checked in to the hospital with a high blood pressure problem at around 36 weeks. It's the kind of problem the worsening of which requires the immediate delivery of the baby. Her little boy is at home with dad and the grandparents, prepping the baby's room and watching the boy grow up, ever so slowly, in the weeks mom has been in a bed away from home.

It's a stressful time. And we've been waiting, just like everyone has been waiting, for news that the new baby has arrived and both mom and the baby are doing well.

We're worried. We're away from home and there's nothing we can do to help, or to prevent disasters. We're powerless, and the world is going to do what it wills and we're none us strong enough for what it will throw at us.

Emily's phone chimed with an incoming text message from C, and we knew the news was bad. Emily read the message slowly, and then emitted the despairing gasp I'd dreaded, and then a soft "Oh no."

"What is it, lady? What happened? What's wrong?"

"It's gone...the Chili's by our house is gone."

How do you ever recover from a loss like that?

I remember exactly where I was when I found out that our Bennigans was closed. At the front door trying to get a Turkey O'Toole.

I feel your pain.

(and hope the best for your friend.)

Um... not quite sure if I think that's funny or just plain obnoxious. Guess if I can't decide it's funny? Maybe?

You just sit back and hope a TGIFridays springs up in it's place

That's a tough one... When the Chevy's near our house closed, I didn't think I'd ever recover. Time. Time heals all wounds. That, and Baja Fresh. I know it's a rebound restaurant for me, but it helps.

DUDE! I'm not even sure that was funny.

It was, it totally was.

You jackass! I had tears welling up in my eyes already and then when I saw "Chili's" I just about threw something at the monitor.

Geez man. :P

Dude...that ain't right. On all accounts.

But also...where will you get your Skillet Queso now?

You know, since they changed my beloved Shangai wings into a bastardized version of its former glory, Chili's is DEAD TO ME.

Hahahahaha!!!!! My hubby says I am the kiss of death for restaurants! Everyone of my faves has closed down in the last few months. This keeps up I may have to start cooking again. THAT would probably be the kiss of death for my children!

Wait - Chili's has high blood pressure?

There has to be some type of etiquette for relaying news at a time like that so you don't get fooled.

I don't care for Chili's that much. It feels like every other chain restaurant to me.

Forgive me for not crying... Don't get me wrong - I enjoy Chili's food, and I even enjoy working there myself (I am on extended maternity leave currently)
However, they... suck. My husband works in the kitchen at a Chili's and has for the past 4 years and they are evil. (don't worry - the kitchen is clean, I'm speaking in terms of the management.) Bah. Screw Chili's.

Evil.

Especially since Chili's sucks.

Okay, I get that I'm totally missing the point here (and omigod, the chili's is closing, that really does suck) and that this post was evil and my heart dropped when she got the text, but here's my comment, which just goes to show you where my head is right now: (longest run on sentence ever) That every two year cycle kills me. I'm having trouble letting go.
