The List

Have you seen The List?

A few weeks ago Danny Evans at Dad Gone Mad invited all of his readers to post links to their blogs, and then encouraged all of them to spread some bloggy love.

Well, earlier this week Dee Dee at Random Daily Ramblings compiled a single list of all of those blogs and posted them.

She was then challenged by Heather to visit and comment on all of them. She accepted the challenge (on the condition that Heather do so as well).

While they were busy challenging each other I went ahead and finished The List.

It took days, and my daughter has been in the same diaper since Thursday, and I think she's had to teach herself to cook, and my wife has since fled to Seattle and Chicago in succession.

But it was worth it.

I met a ton of great bloggers out there in the world (many of whom were already daily reads for me, some of whom are now daily reads for me). I won't post individual links, because I want all of you to go and traverse the list. Do it at your own pace (because my pace might be considered child neglect). You don't have to let them know that they're on the list, although they might know already. Just leave a comment: a hi, a hey, a "that's hilarious" or "great picture" (my two favourites).

And, if you are really masochistic, turn on the "e-mail follow-up comments" function of the blogs you hit. Oh my god, I'll be going through my inbox for days.

One upside to doing that, though, is you can see who's following along behind you. Currently in second place on the Race to Finish the List is Mad Woman Meg. I've seen her dogging my steps for days. But she didn't have the benefit of naptimes coinciding with no hockey (the Red Wings swept the Avalanche on Thursday, so I have to wait until next week for their next round).

Another thing about doing The List is the chain-letter-type bloggy love you get in return. Sure I had to comment on over a hundred blogs over the last few days; it was fun. But in return I also had a ton of new visitors myself.

Now, if only it hadn't been the "Stand-Up Tragedy" post that they landed on :}

Now, if anyone is any good at designing Blog Badges maybe you could throw together a "I'm on The List" badge that links to Dee Dee's site, or a "I Completed the List" badge.

For me. Because I did it.

Your turn.

Awesome! Congrats on finishing the list! I'm still working through it, but I am at a disadvantage. I also have about 50 additional blogs bookmarked from links I found on the DGM forum mixed in with it. I had a few that I couldn't seem to find a comment section. Did you notice that as well?

Wow! Somebody made The List?! I had no idea. I better get a move on, and thanks for dropping by my site.

Wow dude you rock! I started on Friday but didn't get to do any yesterday because of the family wanting to suck up my time being its the weekend and all...whatsupwiththat!!

I'm hoping to get them fed and then get back to it tonight though if possible. The badge idea is pretty cool. Maybe somebody will take you up on that since I'm not that talented. Congrats on the win!

Now go change that baby!

I keep saying I am going to try to make it through that list, but then my Reader calls to me and demands that I get my unread posts down under a quazillion. Stupid bossy Reader.

You kind of rock for making it all the way through first. So, congrats! (Or does that just mean you have too much time on your hands? Hmm . . .)

The list is awesome! If I can find some time next week I will start visiting some new blogs!

BTW, your backpack is full of a seriously cute kiddo. Gorgeous. I miss packing my kids. We still put her in it for short hikes, but she weighs a ton now, so I don't sling or pack her much anymore. (sniff)

Thanks for stopping by Postulates and Pasttimes. Love Danny's blog and he has provide many hours of entertainment on his role call!

So what's your backpack of choice? I'm sure it's covered here, but with two boys, I don't have the luxury of too much looking around.

Are you a baby Bjorn kinda guy or something better?

OHHHH!
That explains...so much. (Name that movie.)

I hope your realize that I've spent approximately 3 hours blogging today already thanks to you, and I've accomplished very little else other than to take Jenny for a ride and get a speeding ticket along the way.

I never realized this blogging sub-culture existed so strongly.

I wish someone would make a list of just dog or pet blogs.

Heather: and you're going backwards! I saw you on the way down. :}

the husband: go! I'm timing you. One one-thousand...

deedee: yeah, thank god my wife left me for the weekend and my daughter slept a lot and the Wings weren't playing any hockey. Life. Who needs one?

burgh baby's mom: way too much time :}

jody: I swung her up into the pack today and I thought "I can do this forever." Of course, my back will have something to say about it. And my heels....

postulatesandpasttimes: I'm using a Deuter Kangakids right now, but I just ordered a Keilty kid carrier 2.5 (Amazon was having a Keilty Kid-carrier sale that I heard of thanks to Parent Hacks). The Deuter has a max weight of 30 lbs on the straps (new models 33lbs), and the Keilty is 40-something. I probably should have bought that one in the first place.

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog... I will go take a look at the list! I've added you to my blogroll... and hope to read through your past posts to catch up on what's going on with your life. Best regards,
Alison

This is hilarious!

Where's the picture? A picture with this post would be great!

I'm going to have to kick up the cardio for a couple of days, maybe go through a cleanse, and perhaps start practicing some sort of meditation to get through that list, but try I will, because it's awesome!

And seriously, it's hilarious!

LilSass said...

Hey hey, I saw you found your way to my blog and were kind enough to support my suing the pants off my asshole-ex employer ;-) Thanks for that! My blogroll is sooo long though I have been meaning to add it to my blog. Thanks for the inspiration. And now that you've read mine, I'll read yours. This is like a grown up version of, "If you show me yours ...."

Very cool idea and thanks for the comment! I will begin the blog trek, too.

I think there should be a "prize" or title that goes with it -- when someone goes thru every single blog and leaves a comment. In my homestate of the GREAT New York, we had the famed "Forty-Sixers" who climbed the highest 46 peaks in the Adirondacks. Maybe you can become a (what's the number?) a "269er" ??

hmm, sounds like a fun challenge. a new project for me this week, perhaps?

This is excellent! Now I have something useful to do while I'm at work! After I pay the masses that is! SHHHHHHH don't tell IT! Your blog is excellent I've added you to my blog roll!

I am glad you did the list. I was thrilled by a new comment from someone new...so thank you! Once I get my final this Thursday overwith, I'll start on the list, too. The internet is pretty amazing, isn't it?

Anonymous said...

I was wondering how you found me. :) I visited a few from his (DGM) list, but with 15 minutes on the computer at a time, it's gonna take me FOREVER to get through them all! :)

kittenpie said...

Wow. To be honest, I couldn't find the list on DGMs site (apparently I'm impaired), so it was nice to see a couple of other people post it. To be honest, the last few days I've been too damn tired for blogging, or even keeping up with blogs I already know, so I know I won't make it through the list, but at some point, I'm planning to hit random ones that sound like fun and check them out. I'm impressed with your diligence, though!

Patti said...

Oh lawdy...I slack off enough at work as it is, I'm never going to get anything done now.

I have a very large blog roll that I read (not all are listed on mine, just the ones I read daily) but I'm always looking for something new.

I can't wait to get started on the list.

Ali said...

there's no way i could do this.
also...i fear falling in love with too many new blogs. there's. just. not. enough. time.
:)

Edith said...

Thanks for the list and thanks for the love. Now go change your daughters diaper she's too cute for a rash. I did also happen to read the comic tragedy..I think you'll be driving the bus with that one. Call me if you need directions

Erin said...

I had a sneaking suspicion something was going on...I've recieved comments from the three of you, I get that from being high up on that list, what can I say I'm a DGM lurker. Thanks for the comment on my blog though and if I happen to get a few minutes, I'll definately make the trip across that list!

Happy Monday

Heather said...

I don't believe there is an actual list on DGM, DeeDee went through every single comment and generated the list herself. =D

Anonymous said...

Oh jeez. I have soooo much housecleaning to do. Now I will have to put that off to read these 4000 blogs, because I.CANNOT.RESIST. Thanks a lot!!!

Anonymous said...

Damn you, I thought I was suddenly popular and had hit the big time with a comment from someone as auspicious as you. Now I'll just have to go and do the list myself. With comments turned on of course!

DeeDee said...

I'm still working my way through...do you realize how many awesome blogs there are out there!! Course you do! It's funny seeing your name on every single one. Hope nobody thinks I'm stalking you!! I've had so many hits over on my blog that I'm actually feeling pressure to post something worth reading but who has the time when I'm reading and commenting on a bazillion other blogs!! I'll let you know when I'm done with the list.

firefox: thanks!

FADKOG: I couldn't take any pictures. (1) I was busy. (2) Emily broke my camera!.

lis sass: Not too grown up, I hope!

geeks in rome: I agree that there should be a prize. I would love to get free stuff :}

christie: see you in three years :}

babyd2008: thanks!

moonspun: well, you're welcome. And the internet is pretty amazing. You meet all kinds of people. And you can marry some of them :}

heidi: pack a lunch :}

kittenpie: I don't think he ever posted the list himself...just left the comment thread open. Dee Dee compiled it. And really you should be ashamed of me. I've been neglecting my abs for days to get through this thing.

patti_mayo: don't get fired :}

ali: you could sleep less. Or invent a time machine.

edith: she figured out how to change her own diaper; and she grew up, graduated high school, got a job, and put me in a retirement home. Now I have all kinds of time. But someone is going to have to change my diaper now.

erin: Happy Monday to you!

heather: I believe you are correct. Danny slacked off :} Props to Dee Dee.

danielle-lee: You. Are. Welcome. :}

bsouth: did I become auspicious over the weekend? I thought it was just called "being a comment whore".

Dee Dee: I know what you mean. The only thing I could think of to write while I was in the middle of going through all of those great blogs was a post about going through all those great blogs. Maybe I'll get a dog and try to balance a phone on its head.

Turn about is fair play - you stopped by my site the other day and left a nice comment so here I am.

Thanks - and I'll be back.

You overachiever, you! Congrats on getting through the list. I've taken up Heather and DeeDee's challenge. I'm fairly certain both kids will be in high school before I get through it. And that I'll be on my hundredth prescription change for my reading glasses....

Thanks for dropping by. Erin is very cute. I hope to read more of your Dadventures together.

And I thought you were a dashboard troller like me. I have only been blogging for a few months, and I am fascinated by the creative and funny and talented people who's lives are up for the fodder! Thanks for reading me and leaving your comment. That is how I found you! I made the list!!! WOW

Thanks for checking me out and come now and again, you hear?
(so I am so NOT from the south, it just sounded that way)

Oh, dear god. After getting back from vacation today, I have over a thousand entries in my reader that I had to zap.

I bow to your diligence!

Darn tootin' I'm in second place. If it wasn't for the fact that of all weeks in the year, THIS was the one chosen for me to actually have some semblance of a life, I would have kicked your ass in the list department.

I'll get you...and your backpack too!

Hi :-)

Thanks for stopping by my blog :-D I'll be able to have a read through yours when I get a bit of spare time - really looking forward to it!

This is what I love about blogging -
I'll be back!

GREAT idea!! Thanks for the link. I was wondering where the new people came from..I figured you had like many other hits I've gotten lately..googled Iron Man family movie :-)

Hey, just passing on the comment love. Thank you for visiting my little blog, and I love the story about trying to fit in with other stay-at-home parents. Keep it up !

ah, I wondered how you found my tiny slice of the internet! :-) Thanks for leaving me some blog love! I'm sending some back to you!

I love this! I am getting to see so many sites I would have ... could have missed.

I totally dig your writing, too ... thanks for keeping me entertained!

BretCB said...

Thanks for stopping by! I won't even pretend I'll going through that list at your pace; it'll probably be this time next year before I get through them all. But, to your benefit, I'm prioritising those people who find me first! ;)

Sandi said...

Oh my god. You're a Wings fan? That's so sad.

GO STARS!!!!

Hilary said...

I feel like you, Dee Dee, Heather and Meg have thrown down the blog equivalent of the white glove, saying "Aha! I challenge you to a duel!" Of course, French accent is absolutely essential when that is being said. And now, I SO want to have a badge, too! I have to make sure Mo and Co have on super absorbent diapers before I accept your challenge. Great post.

Swanny said...

Just wanted to return a little blog-list-love. Obviously, I don't mind being a comment whore, 'cause you've gotta give to receive. Excellent post, sir.

Backpacking Dad said...

becky: great!

mumma boo: do the List like a charity fundraiser. Canvass your neighborhood for donations to the "get me laser eye surgery" fund.

along: thanks :}

swirl girl: I have indeed been a dashboard troller, and that's a great way to find random blogs. With the List, though, I was pretty sure I was going to come across a bunch of people who shared my sense of humour.

loralee: OMG, you zapped? I could never let a blog post go unread....no, I lie. Sometimes I'm just too damned tired, ya know?

madwomanmeg: I hate it when life gets in the way of blogging.

jo: You won't need much spare time :}

nicole: you're welcome

mp: I really liked your review of Iron Man, and I tried to go see it. My daughter had other ideas though.

andrea: now I'll have to!

amber: thanks!

theneatos: you keep the arabian quotes coming.

bretcb: hooray! I knew my child-neglect would pay off!

sandi: there is no way we can be friends now. I can't be friends with a fan of a team that has never won a Stanley Cup. That's right. You guys didn't win the Cup in 1999. Hull was in the crease, the refs and the league blew the call and stole the Cup. It's no different than someone actually stealing the Cup and driving off with it. Morrow is going to get concussed by Kronwall.

so who am i?: You haf ackzepted my challenge? En garde!

swanny: You do indeed have to give to receive. Which is why I give Star Wars toys at every opportunity.
